Breath of Fresh Air

For me, when my son spends his evening talking to me about his day and how much he adores being home is such an amazing feeling. I mean think about it, as adults we see the economy, stress, life in general as being so intense that when a child says how much he enjoys his day at school makes a person really appreciate the simple things. Not too many children are happy with their school and what they learn throughout the day. My son is really smart. He is in a science based school and in the 1st grade, he brought me home his homework which is all about the vertices. Hell, I think I just learned about that not too long ago at the college level. Boy do I feel inadequate. Regardless, this little boy said to me that he has decided that he wants to be a bio engineer when he grows up. He wants to discover the cure for cancer. Isn't that just crazy to hear from an 8 year old? He really makes me proud to be a part of his life, watch him grow and see him change into the person he is going to be. I really feel lucky to be able to be a part of it. I can truly only aspire to see things as clearly as he does at 8 years old. He is my inspiration to be better and more simple in my day to day life. To appreciate simple beauties and be fascinated by things that I take for granted during my day is a type of magic that I (as an adult) work for is something to learn from.

  1. That's rad. Since I rolled heads at Markus' school he's come home stoked about it everyday, too. I'm excited to hear what he learned now because he's excited to talk about it. It's cool.

  2. I think children make your life much better and can give one clearer perspective on what is important in life. I have 4 grandsons and 4 granddaughters and get the same kind of inspiration you recieve from your young son from them. They make me want to be a much better person and I try to encourage them to aspire to do greater things with their lives than I did or their parents did. All three of my daughters inspired me to achieve the best possible education I could. Two of them have aspired to be the kind of mother I only dreamed of being. When I was younger I aspired to be an actress and that is what my oldest is doing--she is a broadway actress! Good luck with your son and may you both inspire each other to achieve greatness in your lives!

  3. i love the minds of children. It really makes you stop and try to appreciate the simple things. Living breathing, laughing, loving. All too often our heads get clouded with the negative social aspects of our lives, which yes is important in some respects but it should never override living in the moment and being happy to be alive on this earth.

  4. I think that is great that your son likes school. In the future it will make your job as a parent MUCH easier! It is pretty awesome to see life through a child's eyes, like you said it is so simple.

  5. I think the best thing in the world is for a child to love to learn. To be curious, to want to know. I can only hope that my children, whenever I have them, are as curious as I once was, and as your son is.
